Text: King Frederick IV of Denmark (1671–1730) paid a state visit to Venice in the winter of 1708. On the eve of his departure, a colorful regatta was held in his honor on the Grand Canal. Liverymen in red and gold row the king, dressed in red, toward his waiting boat at the Palazzo Foscari, seen on the left. His boat passes a huge, green parade float decorated with royal, Venetian, and aquatic symbols.
