Title: Suzanne Le Peletier
Artist: Pierre Dantan

Suzanne Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau (1782–1829) 1804 Jean-Pierre Dantan French, 1800–1869; active in Paris Terracotta This small-scale terracotta bust portrays the daughter of Louis-Michel Le Peletier de Saint-Fargeau, a famous "martyr" of the French Revolution. Dantan was known for his "caricatures" and "portraits chargés," but this work represents a more traditional, respectful approach to portraiture. The delicate modeling of the hair and the sensitive expression capture the sitter's refined character and social standing in post-Revolutionary France.

Category: Neoclassicism 1770-1840
