Title: Cupid and Pan
Artist: Federico Zuccaro

Cupid and Pan About 1600 Attributed to Federico Zuccaro Italian, about 1541–1609 Oil on canvas The subject of this painting comes from a popular quotation from the Roman poet Virgil (70–19 B.C.): "Love conquers all." In the center Cupid is shown subduing the ancient woodland god Pan, grabbing one of his horns. Since Pan personifies carnal lust, their struggle represents the combat between divine and earthly love.

Category: Mannerism, 1520-1600
