Title: Portrait of a Man
Artist: Francesco Salviati

Portrait of a Man About 1544–48 Francesco Salviati Italian, 1510–1563 Oil on panel The bold pose, affected gesture, strident colors, and glossy finish of this portrait are characteristic of the Mannerist style of the mid-1500s. The picture reflects the influence of Bronzino, whose portraits of the Medici court Salviati saw in Florence in the 1540s. Salviati also worked in Venice, Rome, and Fontainebleau. The frame is probably original.

Category: Mannerism, 1520-1600
