Title: Child with Two Donors
Artist: Lorenzo Lotto

The Madonna and Child with Two Donors About 1525–30 Lorenzo Lotto Italian, about 1480–1556 Oil on canvas Unlike the painters of more conventional portraits of donors, Lotto imaginatively created a psychological bond between the couple and the objects of their devotion. Their piety is rewarded with the Christ child's blessing and the gentle gaze of the Madonna. The artist differentiates between the real and the spiritual realms by using a highly naturalistic style for the couple and a more ideal, poetic rendering for the Virgin and child.

Category: Mannerism, 1520-1600
