Title: The Crucifixion
Artist: André d’Ypres

The Crucifixion Before 1450 The Dreux Budé Master, possibly André d’Ypres French, active 1425–1450 Oil on panel Compressing three narrative moments into one scene, this devotional panel represents events surrounding Christ’s death. At left, Christ appears amid the procession from Jerusalem toward Golgotha carrying the cross on which he is crucified (shown at center). At right, Christ rescues Adam and Eve from Hell. Situating the biblical story within an elaborately detailed contemporary setting, the panel offered its original viewers a rich stimulus for the contemplation of Christ’s Passion.

Category: Renaissance 14~16 century
