Title: Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist Date: 1408 Artist: Mariotto di Nardo Artist Details: Italian, active 1394–1424 Medium: Tempera on panel Description This panel originally stood opposite the nearby Saints Lawrence and Stephen, both flanking an image of the Coronation of the Virgin. The wings and gowns of the angels in the central scene extend into both side panels, especially this one. Like Lawrence and Stephen, the Baptist and the Evangelist prompt the viewer with their gestures and facial expressions to look away from them, toward the Coronation.
